About 65 individuals got the chance to mourn lost loved ones at the Third Annual Memorial Dove Tree Ceremony at Middle Village’s Fresh Pond Crematory on December 15.
As part of the solemn ceremony, participants wrote the names of their beloved family and friends on paper doves. Then they placed the winged mementos on a 16-foot, artificial Memorial Tree, which is still on display in FPC’s main Columbarium Building.
“At this time of year, many grieving families are at a loss on what to do for the memory of loved ones,” said FPC President J.P. DiTroia. “We’ve noticed that a lot of people get focus and closure by this physical act.”
This year’s event was facilitated by Cadet Girl Scout Troop 4311 and Junior Girl Scout Troop 4111, which hail from St. Stanislaus in Maspeth.
The Memorial Tree is on display in the Columbarium Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., until January 6, 2003.
FPC is located at 61-40 Mount Olivet Crescent. For more information, call 821-9700.
