![]() PeeWee B Team Saturday, December 21 The Stars scored late in the final period to salvage a 5-5 tie with the Brewster Bulldogs in Long Island Hockey League action The game was played at the Brooklyn teams home ice in Coney Island. Stars forward Matt DiBitetto opened the scoring 1:43 into the game, by converting a pass from center Alex Mitic, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later the Bulldogs tied the game, as they beat Stars goalie Ricky Cibrano with a rebound goal. The upstate boys took a 2-1 lead minutes later with a power play goal. Shortly afterwards it was tied at two a piece with Stars winger James Gilhooly getting the goal, with DiBitetto and Mitic earning assists. But the Brewster team answered with two quick goals at the end of the period, giving them a 4-2 lead. Back came the Stars in the second period, featuring a goal by center Kenny Fiorentino, assisted by winger Patrick Brown and getting the tying goal with an unassisted effort by defenseman Danny Honovic. But once again the visitors got a late goal to take a 5-4 lead. With 1:26 to play in the final period, the Stars got the tying goal from winger Charlie Gotard, assisted by Brown and Honovic. The Stars outshot their rivals 26-25. Sunday, December 22 The Stars traveled to Newburgh to take on the league-leading team. The host team showed why they are atop the standings, as they shutout the Stars by a 5-0 count. The Stars were completely overwhelmed by their foes, being outshot 37-11 and being physically overmatched. Once again penalties hurt the Stars, as they took four, which led to two Newburgh goals. The host team held the Stars to one shot on goal in the first period, demonstrating their dominance, which they continued for the remainder of the contest |
