DFTA Offers Help To Senior
Citizens With Winter Blues

Many Get Depressed After Holidays

The New York City Department for the Aging is working with the United States Administration on Aging, the National Association of State Units on Aging, and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging to inform seniors and their families regarding federal, state, and local assistance available to seniors dealing with post-holiday blues or other issues.
DFTA Commissioner Edwin Mendez-Santiago urged older New Yorkers to be aware of this possible reaction to the holiday season.
“It is important for seniors and their families to recognize that the Holiday Blues affect many people of all ages at different times in their lives. The Holiday Blues are treatable, and assistance is available.”
The EldercareLocator, a nationwide, government-funded directory assistance service that provides older adults and their loved ones with access to information about senior services announced today the “Home for the Holidays Senior Action Plan.”
The five-point plan was developed to address the increased demand for senior services that typically follows the Holiday season. For information, material or literature regarding “Home for the Holidays” call 1-800-677-1116 or surf to www.eldercare.gov.
