The semifinals and championship game of the inaugural Mike Zink Tournament were played this past Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the 104 Hockey Rink. The results follow.
Semi-Finals, Game One
Moose Pack 1-Z Squad 0
In another great game with some awesome goaltending, the Moose Pack squeaked by the Z Squad 1-0 on a second half goal by Al DiCanio.
Game Two
King Alumni 7-Bulldogs 1
The guys from King seemed to be on a mission and left no doubt where they were headed in beating the Bulldogs 7-1. King Scoring included Kilroy (2) Willie S. (2), Pedalino, Duffy and Justin “Looking for a new girlfriend” Berl. Stuart had the lone Bulldog goal.
Championship Game
King Alumni 2-Moose Pack 1
This match-up came down to who was going to blink first, and it stayed that way with a scoreless first half due to the great goaltending of Anthony Pedalino and Joey Eybs.
The second half started out to be a repeat of the first until Bobby Gilroy on an assist for Pat Boller gave King a 1-0 lead.
They would add to it five minutes later on the power play. This time it was Boller getting help from Kilroy.
The Moose Pack made in interesting when Gary Kull pulled them within one with just over a minute left. They couldn’t find the equalizer, and King came out on top 2-1.
A very warm and tearful post game ceremony saw King Captain Pat Boller receive the winners trophy from Mike’s Mom and Dad (Dottie and Daniel) at which time League President Frank Hering presented the Zinks with a check from the tournament.
