| Car Alarm Ban Being Considered Would Prohibit Sale, Installation by Rob MacKay The City Council is considering two bills that aim to eventually eliminate car alarms. Council Member John Liu of Flushing has sponsored legislation that would ban the sale and installation of audible car alarms in the five boroughs. Not to be outdone, Council Member Eva Moskowitz has introduced a bill that would ban the sale, installation and use of alarms. The Upper East Side politician also wants to create a system so citizens can report wailing alarms. Liu introduced a similar bill in 1997, but lobbyists for car alarm manufacturers were able to thwart it. It is expected that they will wage a heated legal battle again this summer. |
