Salon Fire Leads To School’s Evacuation Several children were removed from a preschool inside a Woodside building that caught fire last Friday afternoon, June 6, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the one-alarm blaze occurred at around 4:15 p.m. inside a tanning salon on the second floor of the mixed-use structure on 31st Avenue near 51st Street. Members of Engine companies 261, 263, 307 and 312; Ladder companies 116, 117, 128 and 136; Squad Company 288; Rescue 4; and Battalions 46 and 49, directed by Division 14, responded to the scene along with the 114th Precinct and EMS units. No injuries were reported. The fire was brought under control at around 4:50 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said.
