Honored At Slocum Ceremony The 104th Slocum Memorial ceremony was held by the General Slocum Memorial Association last Saturday, June 7, at Lutheran/All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village. The annual event commemorates the steamboat fire on June 15, 1904 that resulted in the loss of 1,021 lives and remains the worst maritime disaster in New York City’s history. As part of the event, three people were presented with awards. As shown from left, the honorees included: Ken Leib, Outstanding Citizen Recognition Award; Nancy Law, R.N., Caregiver Award; and Lutheran/All Faiths Cemetery CEO and President Daniel Austin, Heroism Award.  (photo: J.
