Cause Of House Fire Investigated
Firefighters battled plumes of smoke and flames that emanated from the top floor of a Maspeth home that caught fire on Tuesday, Aug. 26. (photo: Allen Epstein) While working to extinguish flames that engulfed a Maspeth home, two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the two-alarm event that broke out on Tuesday, Aug. 26, Fire Department sources said.
Reportedly, the fire started at around 11:40 a.m. on the top floor before spreading to the roof of a two-story home on 55th Street between Grand and Flushing avenues.
An FDNY spokesperson said that it was not immediately known if the structure was occupied at the time of the blaze.
Members of Engine companies 206, 218, 237, 259, 271, 277, 291 and 292; Ladder companies 112, 124, 128, 140 and 163; Squad companies 270 and 288; Rescue 4; and Battalions 28, 35, 37 and 45 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 14.
Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units also arrived at the location to assist in the effort.
Reportedly, one of the injured firefighters was taken to a local hospital after suffering smoke inhalation, while the other was treated for injuries suffered from a fall.
No civilians were injured during the event, according to Fire Department sources.
Using three hose lines, the spokesperson said, the fire was brought under control at around 1 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, it was noted.
