Maspeth residents and firefighters who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 were honored in a ceremony held last Saturday, Sept. 6 at Maspeth Memorial Park, outside Maspeth Federal Savings at Grand Avenue and 69th Street. Family members or fellow firefighters took part in placing American flags at the park's World Trade Center memorial as the name of each honoree was called. As shown, the laying of a wreath was performed by firefighters representing FDNY Squad 288 and Hazmat 1. Nineteen FDNY members from the nearby firehouse were lost at the World Trade Center.
