Find Suspected Shooter At Street Fair
by Robert Pozarycki

Angry words exchanged between two teenagers along a Ridgewood street reportedly turned violent when one of the combatants shot the other multiple times during the argument last Friday night, Sept. 5.

Police said that 19-year-old Nicholas Sandoval of 65th Street in Glendale allegedly shot a 16-yearold male multiple times outside of a Gates Avenue location. The victim was later hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Reportedly, Sandoval was arrested by police later that night for disorderly conduct while attending the Fresh Pond Road street festival a short distance from the scene of the gunfire. He would later be charged in connection with the shooting following further investigation by members of the 104th Precinct Detective Squad.

Law enforcement sources said the shooting took place at around 10 p.m. last Friday night in front of location on Gates Avenue near Fresh Pond Road.

According to information obtained by police, Sandoval allegedly became embroiled in an argument with the 16-year-old male. The reasons for the dispute were not disclosed by authorities.

As the exchange became heated, it was reported, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the teenager in the back, hips and legs before fleeing from the scene.

Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the location along with EMS units. The 16-year-old was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment.

Shortly after the gunfire, police said, Sandoval and several friends allegedly were spotted along Fresh Pond Road attending the street festi- val. Reportedly, he was later arrested by officers from the 104th Precinct after he was observed allegedly acting disorderly in public.

Following his arrest, law enforcement sources said, information was obtained by police linking Sandoval to the shooting.

He was then arrested by Det. Eric Virbalis of the 104th Precinct Detective Squad on the charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to court records, Sandoval was arraigned last Saturday, Sept. 6 in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Pauline Mullings, who ordered him held in custody on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 25.
