112th Precinct Touts Record At Council Meet

      Those attending the Sept. 17 meeting of the 112th Precinct Community Council meeting heard good news: according to its commanding officer, the precinct is the safest in the city. Capt. Christopher Tamola made the announcement in his report at the precinct's Forest Hills stationhouse.

      As part of a continuing effort to solicit feedback from customers, MTA New York City Transit is again distributing Rider Report Cards throughout the system, with riders of the 7 and L trains being the first to take part in the survey.

      Subway Changes The MTA has scheduled a number of service changes for several subway lines throughout the city due to construction work. These service advisories are current as of Wednesday, Sept. 24. Last minute changes to service and operating schedules may be made due to weather-related conditions or emergency repairs.

      Street Cleaning Suspensions In observance of the Jewish high holy day of Rosh Hashanah (Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 1) and the Islamic holy day of Idul-Fitr (Wednesday, Oct. 1 through Friday, Oct. 3), alternate-side-of-thestreet parking regulations will be suspended each of the aforementioned days. Meter regulations, however, will remain in effect citywide.

      Dr. Joseph Shenker, the founding president of LaGuardia Community College regarded by many as one of the most innovative educators in the country, died on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the age of 68 following a brief battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
