CK Football Starts Defense Of Crown

On Friday, Sept. 19, the Christ the King boys' varsity soccer started their 2008 season with a home game against Bishop Ford High School.

The Royals entered the game with a new team. After winning the 2007 Brooklyn-Queens Division, the team lost 10 players due to graduation and injuries.

The well-fought game by two evenly matched teams resulted in a scoreless draw.

The first half started with Bishop Ford controlling the game for the first 20 minutes and creating two good chances to score the first goal. As time passed, the Royals took control of the game and missed two good chances to take the lead.

The second half was a battle of the midfielders and Royals freshman Peyton Atteloney missed the best chance to put his team on the board. In the last minute of the game, luck played a big factor for the Royals as Bishop Ford hit the post.

Though the Royals are facing a rebuilding season, there is definitely a positive outlook for this team. During the game, the player that displayed the most potential for future soccer success at Christ the King was freshman John Favara.

The Royals would like to acknowledge the addition of the assistant coach Giuseppe Campailla.
