BY RALPH MANCINI Week Four Start' Em / Sit' Em

The chills, thrills and spills of the NFL season keep on coming like a freight train. Here's this week's list of players you should hop on board with and ones you should stay off of.

START

Trent Edwards: Bye weeks kick in this Sunday and there's no better fill-in passer to start in Week Four than this second-year pro, who's already shown a maturity beyond his years.

This week's opponents are the punchless Rams, who besides some problems with tackling, covering receivers, throwing the ball downfield and advancing past the 50-yard line are actually not a bad team.

Look for the Bills to have their way against a porous secondary that's surrendering 272 yards per game, led by the 2008 version of Elvis "Toast" Patterson, Tye Hill.

Edwards and wide out Lee Evans should be able to hook up on a couple of long gainers.

Jamal Lewis: Lewis has let it be known that he's not getting enough carries, and against a struggling Cincinnati defense, this Brahma bull should have his way versus a unit ranked 28th in average rushing yards allowed.

The former Raven actually ran for 4.7 and 4.8 yards per carry in two of his first three games. A healthy dose of a lumbering Lewis breaking tackles up the middle may be the only thing standing between Cleveland and its first win.

Robert Meachem: A depleted Saints offense will be looking to the 6'2" playmaker to stretch the field versus San Francisco.

In addition to being blessed with top-notch speed, Meachem runs with power and will break tackles after the catch. / Sit' Em

Get him now before he becomes everybody's favorite waiver wire pick next week.

Andre Johnson: After starting the season like a house of fire, the former Hurricane put up a paltry two receptions for 29 yards versus Tennessee last week.

What the numbers don't tell you is that Johnson was able to break free for two touchdowns, which he uncharacteristically dropped.

Blessed with the size, quickness agility and speed to leave most defensive backs in his trail, Johnson will be targeted on numerous occasions versus a stingy Jacksonville defense that should dominate a leaky Texan offensive line against the run.

Houston quarterback Matt Schuab will have to release the ball quickly and take advantage of Johnson's leaping ability and runafter catch skills to win this ball game.

Tony Scheffler: Tight end Scheffler is one of the big reasons why the high-octane Broncos are currently ranked first overall in points scored along with ranking second in passing yards and touchdown passes.

Don't let his 6'5" 250 lb. frame fool you, Scheffler is very fleet of foot and is masterful in creating openings for both Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal.

All three receiving options will be able to post robust numbers versus a Kansas City defense that can't generate a lick of pressure on the quarterback and leave their mostly inexperienced safeties and corners on their own versus three lethal weapons.

BENCH Matt Forte: Hide the wife and children for this one. The promis- ing rookie will have a rough go of it versus a ferocious Philly front seven, which only gives up 45 yards per game and 2.4 yards per carry.

The game plan for the Birds will be simple: Let Kyle Orton beat you with his arm. There won't be lots of points scored in this one.

Edgerrin James: If you haven't been watching the former Colt lately, you may think he's a pretty serviceable back who'll get you 70 to 80 yards a week.

Well, things are about to change in a hurry as rookie Tim Hightower is slowly creeping in on the plodding James.

Not only is Hightower the goalline back, but he's also been promised more carries going forward.

Bernard Berrian: QB Gus Frerotte will wish he was still the backup by the time Tennessee's man-eating defense is done tossing him around all afternoon.

Berrian, Minnesota's numberone target, won't see a lot of balls thrown his way with Frerotte hurriedly dumping off screen passes to his backs and tight ends.

Titan corner Cortland Finnegan will also do his usual best in keeping the former Bear under wraps.
