On Sept. 14, the Our Lady of Hope seventh grade girls' soccer team, the Hope Hornets, played their first game of the 2008 CYO season.

It was an extremely humid Sunday afternoon at O'Conner Field in Bayside, where the Hope Hornets met Sacred Heart of Bayside. Hope played extremely well on offense, winning 4-0. Olivia McFadden scored her first goal of the season during the first half. During the second half, she added one more goal and Francesca Giglio added her first two goals of the season.

All of Hope's girls played strong both offensively and defensively.

On Saturday, Sept. 20 they played against Blessed Trinity (formerly St. Thomas More of Breezy Point) at Juniper Valley Park.

With a 3-0 lead at halftime, goals were scored for the first time this season by Kristen Drogsler and Cathy Lume. Giglio added another goal to her count for the season.

Hope's offensive line had many shots on goal, while Hope's defense played extremely tight, only letting in one goal. Goalie Victoria Scaparro worked very nicely with her defensive line. During the second half, Nikki Morales scored her first goal of the season. At the final whistle, Hope Hornets won 4-1.

The team hopes their two away games next week—Sept. 27 and 28 against DeSales and St. Margaret's, respectively—are just as fruitful. On Friday, Sept. 19, the Christ the King boys' varsity soccer started their 2008 season with a home game against Bishop Ford High School.
