Eatery Broiled In One-Alarm Blaze

(photo: Joseph Epstein)(photo: Joseph Epstein)Flames charred the inside of a popular East Elmhurst restaurant during a one-alarm fire last Saturday morning, Dec. 13. According to FDNY sources, the blaze broke out at around 4:10 a.m. inside Joey's Place restaurant, located on Astoria Boulevard near 83rd Street. Members of Engine compaies 263, 292, 307, 316 and 325; Ladder companies 117, 136, 138 and 154; Squad Company 288; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 49 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 14. Officers from the 115th Precinct and EMS units also arrived at the location. One worker was brought to New York Hospital Queens after suffering smoke inhalation, said an FDNY source. Firefighters reportedly used two hose lines to bring the blaze under control at around 5 a.m.
