Gottschee Teams Head Indoors For The Winter

With the weather turning cold and the fall seasons coming to a close, the soccer action began to slowly migrate indoors with Gottschee's team taking part in a few tournaments around the area.

U8s

Looking to avenge an earlier loss this season, the U8s faced off versus Silver Lake bracing against the cold and wind. After a slow start, Blau Weiss drew first blood in the 10th minute when Andrew DeCanio hit the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Minutes later Sean Molloy doubled the lead and Gottschee appeared in charge.

Silver Lake used their size to deliver several bumps and bruises to Blau Weiss throughout the game but Gottschee stayed on focus and played their game. Dominating possession paid off with a free kick goal by Matteo Ritaccio and penalty kick converted by Sal Rasizzi. Dylan Santos scored in the waning minutes for a 5-0 lead and with the defense shutting down Silver Lake, Gottschee cruised to a well deserved victory.

U10s The Boys' U10 played in the 3v3 Metro cup at Cunningham park and took first place. In the group stages they came out on top beating Mass., Samba Dragons, and Team Chimrad. In the final they faced HBC and in the end ran out easy winners. Gottschee's team consisted of John Arias, Brian Saramago, Conor McGlynn, Omir Fernandez, Merim Beskovic and Tristan Curmi.

U11s

The U11s had an easy time against the Brooklyn Italians, romping 7-1. Nicholas Buric had a big day with four goals, while Andro Economides, Frances Coles, and Max Ponticarvo added the others.

U13s

The U13s played up against the Brooklyn Italians and were tied on a late goal by Brooklyn 2-2. Gottschee opened the scoring in the first period on a goal from Cologero Curcuru and took the 1-0 lead into the half. Brooklyn pulled even in the second half but then Blau Weiss struck again with a header form Arun Basuljevic to go up 2-1. With just two minutes remaining Brooklyn found the equalizer by knocking in a corner past the back post.

U15s

It was not much of a challenge for the U15s against Asphalt Green as Gottschee coasted to a 5-1 win. Matt Prano's goal off a feed form Santiago Gonzalez started things and the boys never looked back. Gonzalez shot one of his own in from the right side to make it 2-0 and then Ed Munoz hit one from the left flank to make it 3-0 at the break. Asphalt Green managed to get on the board right after intermission but then Gottschee surged ahead with another two goals form Matt Praino and JC Morguieto to push the game out of reach.

U16s

On Saturday Blau Weiss U16s nipped FCNY's U17's 1-0 up at the Portledge School. The first half ended in a scoreless tie, and the lone goal came in the second period, when David Diosa launched a free kick that caromed of the cross bar and was alertly pushed past the NY keeper by Andrew LoManto for the win.

In Academy action the U16s last match out in California was a good one as Gottschee downed Clearwater Chargers 3-0. Glenn Whalen put the boys up 1-0 in the first half and that held till the break. In the second half Clearwater played possession but Gottschee saw enough of the ball to score two more, both by Aaron Dennis, for the win.

Back locally, Blau Weiss faced Match Fit of New Jersey and fought to a 1-1 tie. Gottschee ate an early goal to trail 1-0 but then Justin Orden pulled the sides level jus before half. In the second period Gottschee relied on possession soccer while Match Fit chose the quick counter-attack but neither side could score.

U18s

The U18s bounced back in their last match out west with a 3-0 win over Clearwater, Florida. Leo Fernandes and Ahkiel Rodney gave Gottschee a 2-0 first half lead and Raffi Abreu struck in the second period to clinch the match.

A late first period goal by Match Fit had Gottschee looking to catch up, but strong defensive play and excellent goal keeping by the New Jersey side kept Blau Weiss off the board and without points, as they lost 1-0.

Girls' U10s

The girls were indoor with the U10s over at Cunningham taking on HBC and beating them by a score of 1-0. After battling through a scoreless first half, HBC provided an own goal which was all Gottschee needed. Medina Mulic, Julianna Lignowski and Maria Pipitone all put in a strong defensive effort.

Girls' U13s

Over in New Jersey, the U13's played at the Armory, playing in four games and put in a strong effort. The first game was against Asphalt Green Wave 96 and Gottschee won 3-0. Tori Antonino, Therese O'Boyle and Dorentina Zeneli each scored one. The girls lost the second versus Cortlandt Vernon 2-1, with O'Boyle scoring the lone goal.

Next up was Manhattan Hotspur and they were little competition, as Blau Weiss blanked them 5-0. Goals were scored by Francesca Giglio, Olivia McFadden, Tori Antonino, and Therese O'Boyle. The final was a re-match against Manhattan Hotspur and Gottschee won again, this time 3-1.
