Christmas Eve Fire Hits Glendale Diner
Closed For Holidays Due To Damage

(photo: Joseph Epstein) Those who had hoped to get a holiday meal at the Glendale Diner were left to find another place to eat after the restaurant was damaged by a one-alarm fire on the night before Christmas, Wednesday, Dec. 24, it was reported.
Fire Department sources said the blaze broke out inside ducts within the diner located in the vicinity of Myrtle Avenue and 71st Place at around 7:40 p.m.
Reportedly, all customers and staff members inside the eatery at the time were evacuated from the location safely. No injuries were reported.
Members of Engine companies 277, 286, 291, 293 and 319; Ladder companies 112, 135, 140 and 143; Rescue 4; Squad Company 252 and Battalions 28 and 39 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 14.
Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units also responded to the fire.
Using two hose lines, a Fire Department spokesperson said, the blaze was brought under control at around 8:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation by FDNY marshals, it was noted.
Reportedly, the diner has been closed since the fire due to ongoing repairs. It is scheduled to reopen on or about New Year's Day.
