Driver Hospitalized With Injuries

(photo: Joseph Epstein) The driver of a sports utility vehicle that crashed and overturned along Union Turnpike in Forest Hills managed to escape from his damaged ride without serious injury, Fire Department sources said.
Reportedly, the accident occurred at around 11 a.m. Sunday along the eastbound lanes of the roadway near 72nd Road.
According to FDNY sources, the individual was traveling inside the vehicle at a high rate of speed when the SUV lost control and struck a guard rail on the side of the street.
The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn and crash into a nearby ditch, it was reported.
Members of Engine Company 305, Ladder Company 151, Squad Company 288, the 112th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene.
Upon arriving at the location, it was noted, the victim was located outside the vehicle and transported to a local hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
