BW Academy Teams On Road In Maryland

Gottschee sent a few teams on the road this past weekend, the Academy squads traveling up to Connecticut to take on South Central and the U13A Boys heading down south to Bethesda, Md. to play in a tournament. The other teams were local, in Cosmopolitan League action.

U8s

The cold weather and Silver Lake teamed up to put a chill on Gottschee's U8A as the Staten Island side won 4-3. Blau Weiss fell behind right from the start, giving up a free kick just outside the box which was effectively converted by Silver Lake. Sal Rasizzi tied the game midway through the opening period and it appeared that BW's continued pressure might result in several more.

But a series of bad bounces and posts turned out to be Gottschee's biggest opponent, and Silver Lake took full advantage by scoring on multiple counterattacks, putting the boys into a 4-1 hole. The team did not give up however and goals by Andrew DeCanio and Shane Dempsey put them within one and then Gottschee pressed for the equalizer.

Unfortunately the boys ran out of time, but the team's effort will inspire them to take to the next level when they meet again on Dec. 6.

In an intra-club match, the U8B and U8C battled to 2-2 standstill with the even score a true reflection of the action. The B team's goals were scored by David Barbu and Tom Kieblecz while the C team got its tallies form Daniel and Nick Curmi.

The U8D were dumped by Cross Island 5-1. Gottschee's lone strike came from Rohan Iyer.

U9s

Finishing atop of their CJSL division for the fall season, the U9A blanked Islas Malvinas 3-0 on a second half hat-trick by Tim Weah.

U10s

In a tough, well-played game, Gottschee's U10A lost to Manhattan Kickers U11's on a last minute goal, 5-4. Gottschee's goals came from Aaron Lopez, Omir Fernadez, Bryan Sarmago, and Connor McGlynn.

The U10B defeated Downtown United SC on goals by Cesar Aguilar (2), Joel Morales, Nicholas Karkut, and Francesco Concordia.

U12s

Playing stingy, defensive soccer, the U12A knotted Asphalt Green 1- 1. Conrad Nowowiejski scored the goal that tied the match for Gottschee.

U13s

Down in Maryland at the Bethesda Tournament, the U13A faced some tough competition over the course of three games and managed to come away with only a solitary tie.

Gottschee opened the competition poorly, losing to Olney, Md. 5- 2. Blau Weiss got on the board first on a shot by Arun Basuljevic, but then Olney roared back with three goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. After the break Olney added another to lead 4-1 but then Basuljevis struck again to keep it a game, 4-2. Olney added their final tally in the last minute to cap the win.

In the next game Gottschee faced off against Michigan Elite and although Gottschee outplayed Michigan, it took Michigan their one and only attack to seal Blau Weiss fate and Elite won it 1-0.

The final match pitted Gottschee against Den of Lions out of New Jersey and that ended in a 1-1 tie. Lions went up 1-0 on a goal early in the second period but the a PK by Arun Basuljevic pulled the teams level. Gottschee keeper turned away a PK attempt by the Lions to preserve the tie.

U14s

In a makeup game the U14B played versus Buena Vista at the Parade Grounds on Sunday. The boys struggled early on trying to get acclimated to the small playing field, however as has been the case all season, Sebastian Choinski broke the ice by scoring the opening goal and then the team settled down to play possession style soccer. Kamil Pruszko (25th min), Yaro Herin (30th min), and Conrad Nowowiejski (55th min) rounded out the scoring to defeat Buena Vista 4-0.

U15s

The U15A Boys were up in Connecticut to take on South Central and just missed coming home with three points, falling 3-2. Playing with the wind in the first half, South Central opened a 3-1 lead and never looked back. Santiago Gonzalez scored for Blau Weiss in the period. In the second half Matt Praino's header with 10 minutes remaining made it close but it wasn't enough.

U16s

Up at Randalls Island, the U16s nipped Downtown United SC's U17s 1-0 on a goal by David Diosa.

On Saturday the Academy Teams traveled to Connecticut to play South Central Premier Academy at the University of Bridgeport. The U16 squad won their game 4-0 with Daniel Herrera and Anthony Flores scoring in the first half. After the break it was Glenn Whelan and Justin Montero who doubled the lead for the final line.

U18s

In a reversal of fortune, South Central took it to Gottschee's U18 Academy team, shutting them down and out 4-0.

Gottschee's Academy teams will be will be on the road again on Sunday, traveling to Connecticut to play Oakwood Academy.

Girls' U10s

Over on the girls' side, the U10s defeated GJOA by a score of 2-0. Julianna Lignowski finished a breakaway to put Gottschee up 1-0 at the half. Paulina Ambrus hit one into the top corner with a hard shot late in the second half to secure the victory. Diana Paravatos, Medina Mulic, Isabelle Montesinos and Melanie Jelen all helped shut GJOA down all day long.

Girls' U11s The Girls' U11 lost to AYSO 3- 0 after trailing 1-0 at the half.
