Driver Scorched After Fiery Crash

(photo: Joseph Epstein) (photo: Joseph Epstein) One man suffered severe burns after his van crashed into a tree and caught fire in Elmhurst last Friday morning, Jan. 9, Fire Department sources stated. Reportedly, the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Van Horn Street and 60th Road. Upon striking the tree, an FDNY source said, the van burst into flames that eventually spread to a nearby parked car. Members of Engine companies 287 and 289, Ladder companies 136 and 138, Battalion 46 and Division 14 responded to the scene along with the 112th Precinct and EMS units. The injured man was transported to the Cornell Burn Center with severe burns, said an FDNY spokesperson.
