Day Of Blazes Scorches Properties Across Richmond Hill

(photos: Allen Epstein) Firefighters were kept busy by a rash of unrelated house fires that broke out throughout Richmond Hill last Thursday, Jan. 29, it was reported.
According to FDNY sources, the first blaze was a two-alarm inferno that started at around 10:05 a.m. inside a home on 129th Street near 101st Avenue.
Reportedly, the flames ignited inside the basement of the two-story dwelling before extending to the upper floors and to a nearby home.
Responding to the scene were members of Engine companies 275, 285, 294, 303, 304 and 308; Ladder companies 126, 127, 142, 143 and 155; Squad companies 270 and 288; Rescue 4; Battalions 39, 50, 51 and 54; Division 13; the 102nd Precinct and EMS units.
No residents were reported injured as a result of the fire.
Using three hose lines, Fire Department sources said, the blaze was brought under control at around 10:40 a.m.
Regarding the second fire, an FDNY spokesperson said that incident took place at around 4 p.m. inside a home on 120th Street between 107th and 109th avenues.
According to the Fire Department, the one-alarm fire broke out on the second floor of the two-family dwelling, causing minor damage.
Members of Engine companies 285, 293, 294 and 304; Ladder companies 126, 143 and 155; Squad Company 270; Rescue 4; and Battalions 39 and 51 responded to the scene under the direction of Division 13.
As in the first fire, an FDNY source said, no injuries were reported.
Using one hose line, the Fire Department stated, the blaze was brought under control at around 4:30 p.m.
Fire Department sources said the third incident was a garage fire that broke out at around 6 p.m. last Thursday night behind a home on 89th Avenue near 120th Street.
Various FDNY units responded to the scene along with the 102nd Precinct. The incident was brought under control a half-hour later. No injuries were reported.
The causes of all three fires were investigated by FDNY marshals, the spokesperson said.
