Big Chains Put Mom-And-Pop Pharmacies Out Of Business
Study Notes Resulting High Prices
      Chain pharmacies have muscled out more than 75 mom-and-pop pharmacies in the last year alone, according to a new study conducted by Rep. Anthony Weiner, a member of the House Commerce Committee. While community pharmacies close, big chain pharmacies have grown to 654 today from 165 in 1990, according to the study.

Cuomo Brokers Deal To Honor Fortunoff Gift Cards Thru 3/8
Estimated $8.5M In Store Credit Remains
Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo has announced an agreement with the liquidators of the Long Island-based jewelry and furniture chain Fortunoff to honor consumer gift cards and credit slips through Mar. 8, as the company pursues bankruptcy.
      It is estimated that there are approximately $8.5 million worth of unused gift cards and credit slips currently in circulation. Earlier this month, Fortunoff stopped accepting gift cards even though the stores remained open, leading dozens of consumers to file complaints with the Attorney General's Office.
