      The outdoor action picked up over the weekend, especially for the Academy teams, as they played a pair of matches against teams from the Potomac region. In Cosmopolitan league play, the U8B defeated Elmont by a score of 3-2. David Barbu, Thomas Kieblecz, and Brandon Ranzie teamed up to give Gottschee a 3-0 first half lead.

Rep. Maloney Helps Tip Girls B-Ball Season
      Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney was on hand to help open the 2009 season of the Long Island City YMCA's girls basketball league this Saturday, Mar. 21. U.S. Sen Charles E. Schumer and Maloney secured a $47,000 grant in last year's federal budget that will enable the league to double in size this season, from 40 to 80 players.
