Tough Weekend For Gottschee In New York State Cup Action

Squads Stay Active Despite Rainy Conditions

Blau Weiss took it on the chin this past weekend with two of its stronger sides being knocked out of the New York State Cup run.

Otherwise, Gottschee squads were quite active in league play. The free clinic was postponed till this weekend due to very wet field conditions and will have one more session this Saturday at Juniper Valley Park.

Wasting little time, the U8A blasted Silver Lake Horizons 12-2. Blau Weiss scored their first goal within a minute of kick-off and then proceeded to reel off six more to make it 6-0 at half. Silver Lake had no hope of getting back in and Gottschee made certain, scoring six more after the break. Goals were scored by Sean Molloy (4), Sal Rasizzi (2), Eric Schemitsch (2), Michael Kilcarr (2), Matteo Ritaccio and Shane Dempsey.

The U8B were swamped by GJOA 8-0. The score was 5-0 by the break and it was never much of a game.

Keeping their perfect record intact, the U8C team defeated Athletico de Bronx 6-1. Ervin Dervisevic tallied four goals for the second game in a row and Daniel Curmi and Ramo Lukovic picked up one goal apiece.

Gottschee's U8D battled Eleftheria to 3-3 tie.

It was a decisive win for the U9A against Asphalt Green, shutting them out 6-0. Kevin Calderone and JP Rodriguez each scored two goals while Tim Weah and Alex Jovanovich added the others.

Playing up against their older club siblings did not stop the U10A team, as they blanked the U11 2-0. Both goals were scored by Connor McGlynn.

The start was good but the finish was disastrous for the U10B, falling to GJOA A by a score of 3- 2. Gottschee took a 2-0 first half lead on a strike by Francesco Concordia and a GJOA own goal, but then saw it all fall apart late in the second period when GJOA scored three unanswered goals to win the match.

The U12A Boys were knotted by Downtown United SC 2-2. DUSC got on the board first but then Gottschee's Connor McGlynn pulled the teams level with a shot from eighteen yards out. Mike Ortiz found the back of the net shortly afterward and BW took a 2-1 lead into the break. In the second period DUSC was awarded a penalty which they converted to tie.

In a disappointing outing, the U13A team was eliminated from the NY State Cup after a 2-0 loss at Bedford. Gottschee started slow and found themselves behind 1-0 after an early Bedford goal. After halftime Gottschee applied the pressure and had two balls cleared off the Bedford goal line but could not get the ball into the back of the net. With 10 minutes to go Bedford struck on a counter to put Blau Weiss away.

The U14B Boys took to the field versus Brooklyn Italians and found themselves down 2-0 not 10 minutes into the game. Nunzio Urso halved the deficit right before the break, but the boys couldn't muster any more offense and lost 2-1.

In another bitter defeat, the U16 saw their State Cup run end at Blackwatch in Albany after losing on penalty kicks 4-2. Black watch had only one shot on goal in regulation but made the most of it and used it for a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute. Gottschee evened the score eight minutes into the second half and then had numerous chances but none amounted to a lead. Blackwatch was cool and calm in the free kicks and came out on top to advance.

On Sunday, in a league game, the U16 beat Banatul U17 2-0 on goals by Giancarlo Maurello and Andrew LoManto.

The U16 Academy edged Albertson 3-2. The game was back and forth with Gottschee taking a 1-0 lead in the first half on a shot by Aaron Dennis from twenty yards out. Albertson quickly equalized but the boys went back up 2-1 when Dennis nodded in a corner. Albertson tied again by poking in a loose ball in front of the Blau Weiss net and the teams went into the break at twos. After the break it was Dennis once more for his hattrick that put Gottschee up for good.

The U18 Academy side was nipped 1-0 by Albertson on a late, second period PK. Blau Weiss had control of long stretches of the match but could not finish. Overall it was a well played game.

The U10 Girls began the weekend with a 5-3 loss on Saturday to Staten Island United in the City Cup. The game was 2-2 after an evenly played, and Gottschee took a 3-2 lead midway into the second, but then were undone when Staten Island capitalized on numerous defensive errors, scoring three late, to win 5-3. Maia Cabrera accounted for all Blau Weiss scoring.

Manhattan Kickers were up next on Sunday and defensive lapses again put Gottschee behind 2-0 by half. In the second period Kickers scored again and BW trailed 3-1 late in the game. In a quick turn of events, Maia Cabrera scored two successive goals and Diana Paravatos followed with a finish in the box, to give the girls a wild 4-3 win.

In another disappointing outing, the Girls U13 fell to Chappaqua, 3- 2, away.

The Girls High School team doubled up over the weekend starting on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Manhattan Mayhem. The Girls redeemed themselves on Sunday however, with a 2-1 win over Mount Pleasant.
