ROCKED BY NIGHTS OF GUNSHOTS

Separate Shootings Kill One, Wound Pair
by Robert Pozarycki

One man was killed and two others were injured in a pair of separate shootings on back-to-back nights along streets in Bushwick last Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12, according to police.

Authorities said a 23-year-old man was gunned down by an unidentified perpetrator in front of a home on Linden Street near Knickerbocker Avenue last Thursday evening. He died a short time later at a local hospital.

About 24 hours later, law enforcement sources noted, two teenagers were struck by gunshots fired along Putnam Avenue on Friday. Both sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Regarding last Thursday's homicide, members of the 83rd Precinct responded to the Linden Street location at around 11:50 p.m. after receiving 911 calls regarding shots fired.

Upon their arrival, police said, the officers discovered 23-year-old Sharif Morris of Portland Avenue in Fort Greene, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, leg and back.

According to information obtained by police, a dispute broke out near the location just before the bullets were fired.

Morris was transported by EMS units to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he died early the next morning.

Last Friday's shooting took place at around 11:50 p.m., when two men—ages 18 and 19—were shot outside a home in the vicinity of Putnam and Evergreen avenues, law enforcement sources stated.

Reportedly, the two victims were walking through the area when they were approached by the gunman, described as an African-American male who was observed wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Seconds after confronting the two males, police said, the suspect opened fire, striking both males in their legs before fleeing from the scene.

Officers from the 83rd Precinct responded to the location. The 19- year-old male was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center after being shot in his right leg; the 18-year-old male was transported to Kings County Hospital Center after sustaining gunshot wounds to his left and right legs.

The victims are expected to recover from their injuries, authorities said.

Both cases are being investigated by members of the 83rd Precinct Detective Squad, police said. The Brooklyn Homicide Squad is assisting in the investigation of last Thursday's murder.

At press time, no arrests have been made in connection with either shooting.

Persons with information regarding both incidents that could prove helpful are asked to call the 83rd Precinct Detective Squad at 1-718- 574-1796 or Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-577-TIPS; all calls will be kept confidential.
