U16 Earns Place In North Carolina Tourney

With league seasons in the last throes, several Blau Weiss sides secured positions atop their tables with wins over the weekend of June 6-7.

The U8A easily defeated Brooklyn Italians 13-2. Goals were scored by Sal Rasizzi (2), Sean Molloy (4), Matteo Ritaccio (3), Michael Kilcarr (2), Eric Schemitsch and Dylan Santos.

The U8B was shutout by Cross Island Generals 2-0.

Eleftheria fell to the U8C 7-3.

In a tight battle, the U8D knotted GJOA 1-1, with Matt Osiecki scoring for Gottschee.

It took a half to get going, but it was worth it, as the U9A beat Islas Malvinas 5-1. Blau Weiss led 1-0 at the half thanks to a goal by Kevin Calderone. After the break the boys came out more spirited and dumped in four more by: Demos Demopoulos, Carlo Ritaccio, Tim Weah and Calderone's second, for the win.

The U10A won the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) U11 Division Championship by defeating Asphalt Green Celtic 4-1. Omir Fernandez, Conor McGlynn, Tim Weah and Giraldo Ritaccio scored for Blau Weiss.

Two well executed give-andgoes did in the U12A team, as they were shutout by Manhattan SC 2-0.

Playing their final game of the season, the U14B squad lost to the Kosmos 2-1. Gottschee controlled most of the play but conceded a goal with ten minutes left in the half and trailed 1-0 at the break. Sebastian Choinski, as he has done for the entire season, scored in the 50th minute to get the boys back in it and the teams were level at one. A great goal by the Kosmos with ten minutes remaining was the decider.

Starting slow but finishing strong, the U16 took the CJSL U17 Division Championship after a 5-0 pasting of. Mario Gagliano scored a hat-trick and Sebastian Ramirez and Arik Raviv added the rest.

In Academy action, the U16 traveled to New England for a pair of matches. The first was against Boston Bolts which saw Blau Weiss dominate play but struggle to score. Gottschee took a 1-0 lead with fifteen minutes remaining on a shot by Aaron Dennis but that lead evaporated with ten minutes later when Boston pulled level on a header. However, the single point helped Gottschee solidify its grasp on second place and earn a position in the playoffs to be held in North Carolina from June 27th through July 1st.

The second match of the weekend was against Seacoast, New Hampshire and that was a laugher, with Gottschee romping 6-0. Goals were registered by Aaron Dennis (2), Rocco Romeo, Andres Fernandez, Justin Orden and Greg Davis.

The U18 Academy team opened against Boston who fielded a strong side and blanked Blau Weiss 2-0. The second game versus Seacoast was a goal-fest but fortunately for Gottschee in their favor, 5-3. New Hampshire struck first in the opening period, but Gottschee answered with a pair, by Kevin Garcia and Alex Rodriguez, to take a 2-1 halftime lead. Seacoast started the second half with an equalizing goal but then strikes by Justin Herdia, Stefan Broussard and Kevin Garcia pushed the game out of reach.

On the girls side, the U10 traveled to Staten Island and played Silver Lake to a 2-2 draw. Tall grass and high heat made it a slow paced game with Silver Lake taking an early 1-0 lead. Gottschee's Maia Cabrera tied it up 1-1 but Silver Lake scored again to take a 2-1 halftime lead. Paulina Ambrus scored halfway through the second half to make it 2-2. Gottschee pressured the rest of the game, hitting posts and missing wide and in the end had to settle for the point.

The U11 defeated AYSO 5-1 in Brooklyn.

Up at Brennan the U13 avenged an earlier season loss to Briarcliff Bulldogs, beating them handily 5- 1. Therese Boyle (2), Victoria Antonino (2) and Karen Sarmiento scored for Blau Weiss.

The High School Girls defeated Briarcliff Bandits 2-0. Gottschee controlled the majority of possessions and got goals in each half by Ariana Anastos and Michelle Sabogal.
