Cops Turn Out Lights On A Party
Illegal Bash At Factory Comes To Abrupt End
With the help of a local resident’s tip, police reportedly crashed a paid-admission party at a defunct Ridgewood factory last Saturday night, Sept. 26, arresting five individuals for various charges including disorderly conduct and drug possession. Members of the 104th Precinct’s Anti Crime and Conditions Unit under the direction of Lt. James Lom bardi, special operations coordinator shut down the illegal festivities at a commercial building located at 1618 Weirfield St. (be tween Cypress and Wyckoff avenues) after 9 p.m. Saturday evening. Advertisements for the party ti tled “Blackout Bash” featuring a scantily clad model were reportedly found last week outside Grover Cleveland High School. Doors were scheduled to open at 9 p.m. Saturday night, with women admitted free until midnight and men charged between $10 and $20 to get in, depending on the time of their arrival. The postcard sized flyer also in dicated that the lighting during the party would be shut off at midnight, and glow sticks would be provided. The local resident passed along the flyer to the 104th Precinct’s Commu nity Affairs Unit. Upon entering the location Satur day night, law enforcement sources said, the officers determined that the premises was overcrowded with peo ple, potentially creating a fire hazard. As a result, police ordered the event ended and all revelers to leave. In the process, authorities said, five individuals allegedly obstructed police efforts to close the festivities down and acted in a disorderly man ner. The arrested were identified as Ridgewood residents Elvis Mosqueq, 18, of Greene Avenue and Angel Guzman, 38, of Wyckoff Avenue; Jeffrey China, 38, of Palmetto Street in Bushwick; Christopher Rivera, 22, of Laurel Street in Carteret, N.J., and a 16 year old Ridgewood girl whose name was withheld by police. Law enforcement sources said China was additionally charged with criminal possession of narcotics after officers discovered a quantity of heroin in his possession. Police noted that criminal court summonses were also issued to the organizers of the event for failing to have the proper permits to conduct the party. The Fire Department was called to the location on Monday, Sept. 28, to order an official vacate order for the premises, it was re ported. “We looked into it, and it turned out to be fruitful,” said a law en forcement source familiar with the enforcement operation, who credited the local resident for informing po lice of the illegal party. Sources with the NYPD stated that police will continue to monitor the location and would take action if another illegal party is scheduled.
