DEATH NOTICES

JANET E. POJE, formerly of Glen dale, died on September 12, 2009 in Lantana, Florida. She was the widow of the late Anton F. Poje, beloved mother of Barbara Poje of Westbury, New York, Lori Davis of Georgia, George Poje of Florida, Daniel Poje of Florida and Karen Olszewski of Brooklyn, and fond grandmother of Tara Walsh, Daniel Poje, Jessica Davis, Billy Davis, Amanda Poje, Samantha Poje, Carolyn Olszewski, Anthony Olszewski and James Ol szewski. Funeral services will be held at the George Werst Funeral Home, 71 41 Cooper Avenue, Glendale on October 3 from 3 to 5 p.m.

 

+++ MARIE MALONE of Ridgewood died on September 24, 2009 at the age of 79. A native of Manhattan, she was the widow of the late Elliott and devoted mother of Kristine Malone; also survived by three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Brigid Church followed by interment in Pinelawn Memorial Park under the direction of the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ ROBERT PIOTR SZUMANSKI of Ridgewood died on September 23, 2009 at the age of 40. A native of Pi otrkow Trybunalski, Poland, he was the beloved husband of Grazyna Czechowicz, loving son of Juzef and Krystyna Szumanski and dear brother of Pawel Szumanski. Services were held at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, fol lowed by interment in Cmentarz Parafialny in Wolominie, Poland.

+++ JAMES SMITH died on September 27, 2009 at the age of 76. He was the dear brother of Alice Noebel and an uncle and great uncle. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72 27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ NETTIE DeSOCIO died on Septem ber 21, 2009 at the age of 81. She was the beloved wife of Robert, devoted mother of Annette LoMonaco and Nick DeSocio, mother in law of Michael and Giannina, and fond grandmother of Lori, Danny, Matthew and Gregory; also survived by great grandchildren Justin and Alexis. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of Hope Church followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72 27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ CHARLES G. O’CONNELL died on September 23, 2009 at the age of 72. He was the beloved husband of Do lores M., devoted father of John, Charles Jr., Sigrid, Colleen Giar ratano and the late Denise, dear brother of Harold, John and Dennis, and fond grandfather of Jennifer, Gasper and Denise; also survived by great grandchildren Marylina and Elias. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. Funeral services were followed by cremation in Fresh Pond Crematory under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72 27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ CARL PRELOG of Kew Gardens died on September 20, 2009 at the age of 87. A native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, he was the beloved hus band of Judita Prelog, devoted father of Judith and Marie, and fond grand father of Michael, Nicolas, Sophie and Philipp. Services were officiated by Rev. Krizolog Cimermann of St. Cyril Church, a Slovenian parish in Manhattan, followed by interment in Ljubljana, Slovenia under the direc tion of the Peter J. Geis Funeral Home, 57 34 Catalpa Avenue, Ridge wood.

+++ ROBERT R. REESE JR. of Glendale died on September 18, 2009 at the age of 73. A native of Brooklyn, he was the beloved husband of Marilyn, dear brother of Dorothy Wenz and the Late Alfred, brother in law of Colleen Reese and Siegfried Dietl, fond uncle of Nancy Ketchum, Mau reen Camus, Joellen Rivinius, Kristin and Brian Reese, and great uncle of Brittany and Amanda Rivinius, Melissa Camus and Michael Lindsey. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Matthias Church followed by interment in Pinelawn Cemetery under the direction of the Peter J. Geis Funeral Home, 57 34 Catalpa Avenue, Ridgewood.

+++ PAT J. MARTINO died on Septem ber 28, 2009 at the age of 88. He was the husband of the late Lillian, de voted father of Patrick and Geraldine, and dear brother of Sally, Joseph, Ann and Donald; also survived by six grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Ignatius Church followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery under the direction of the Hess Miller Fu neral Home, 64 19 Metropolitan Av enue, Middle Village.

+++ MARGARET M. SMITH died on September 22, 2009 at the age of 85. She was the widow of the late Ed ward, dear brother of Arthur Mc Cauley and Rosemary Maher; also survived by seven nephews and five nieces. She was a proud teacher at St. Theresa Notre Dame School. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Kilian’s Church followed by inter ment in St. Charles Cemetery under the direction of the Hess Miller Fu neral Home, 64 19 Metropolitan Av enue, Middle Village.
