L.I.C. Man Shot In Astoria Dies After Driving Self To A Hospital
Cops Seek Gunman Who Pulled Trigger
A 31-year-old Long Island City man who was shot at an Astoria intersection on Sunday night, Oct. 18, reported managed to bring himself to a local hospital, where he would die from his injuries. The victim was identified by police as Michael Chatfield, a resident of 10th Street. According to information obtained by police, Chatfield was shot twice in the torso at the corner of 24th Street and 20th Avenue some time before 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known, it was reported. Following the gunfire, law enforcement sources said, Chatfield drove himself to Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens, where he died a short time later. Members of the 114th Precinct responded to the hospital after being informed of the shooting. Despite a preliminary investigation, it was reported, no immediate arrests were made. The 114th Precinct Detective Squad is conducting an ongoing investigation in the case, police said.
