Green Team Rides Backs In New Run To Daylight Football League
Gold Team Beats White To Even Record
Weekend action in the Queens Falcons Run To Daylight Football
League saw the two winners from Week 1 square off.
The Queens Falcons Run To Daylight Football League was in action again over the weekend.
Green (2-0) and Blue (1-1) battled in the first half. Both teams’ first drives ended on fumbles. The Blue team’s second drive was led by the hard running of #32 Ja’lin Smith (4- 33) and #22 Corey Smith (10-48) but the squad was unable to punch the ball in from the 4 yard line as the time ran out in the first half.
The Green team received the ball to start the second half and drove down the field behind the great offensive line play of Derrick Cole, David Vidot, Victor Candelario, Bolivar Pozo and Michael Simone. The blocks by the Green offensive line enabled #21 Abdul Kircher (13-56) to lead the first scoring drive of the day which was capped by a 12 yard run by #28 Anthony Gallo (3-13). Abdul Kircher punched in the 2-point conversion which gave the Green team an 8-0 lead.
The Blue team was unable to get anything going as its next drives, which ended by punt, on downs and then an interception. #68 Chris Kotsis played tough on both sides of the line for Blue.
On fourth and long on Greens’ last possession #44 Brandon Maxton hit the corner for his second 60+ yard TD run and third TD on the season.
Final score Green 16-Blue 0.
The second game of the day was between White (0-2) and Gold(1-1). The White team opened up the first half starting with QB #10 Jason Kwan connecting to WR #23 Kelli Benson for a 25 yard gain.
However two plays later a fumble would hault the drive. The Gold team’s first drive was plagued with penalties and when the White team got the ball back they began to sustain a long drive but again the drive ended on a fumble. #27 Noah Williams (12-44) and #42 Brian Almonte (6-38) both ran hard behind the blocks of Arjay Bowline, Johnathan Meditz, Mory Sakho, Sebastian Obando and Dejon Wesh.
Gold team took what worked in Week 1 and ran with it literally by giving their horse RB #43 Boris Caraballo 14 carries for 157 yards and a TD. That lone touchdown came in the second half on the best drive of the day for either team. This gave the Gold team an 8-0 lead that they would hold onto to earn their first win. Caraballo and the rest of the Gold team was led by the great blocking of Nasir Grant, Lou Barbera and Garrett Pergue. #28 Douglas Shoemaker (7-18) toughened it out as he was a little bruised up during the game.
Defensively Anthony “Doctor” Cappellino, who played in both games, played great as well as Boris Caraballo.
For White, Anthony Morciglio and Mark Paraskevas stepped up their games and provided toughness defensively.
