Christ The King Boys Soccer Has High Hopes For Playoffs

Injuries Dampen Optimism Slightly

Chris Morales Chris Morales Christ the King visited St. Johns Prep for the last game of the regular season, traveling to Con Edison Field in Astoria on Friday, Oct. 23.

The Royals defense made two crucial mistakes and gave up two goals in the last twenty minutes of the game.

The only goal for the Royals was scored by freshman, Calogero Curcur, and the game finished 2-1 in favor of the St. Johns Prep.

With a great deal of hope the Royals are getting ready for the playoff run. Their first game is Nov. 5, and the team is hoping that every injured player will be back by that time. Key players such as Chris Munoz, Brandon Gray, Carmine Colombo and Anthony Pipitone are out with injuries.

With the regular season completed, here are the stats on this year’s Royals: the team finished regular season with 6 wins and 4 losses; third in Brooklyn/Queens B; in 10 games Royals averaged 3 goals per game, 2 assists and 2 goals against.

The leading scorer is freshman, Federico Curbelo with 7 goals; Chris Morales and Calogero Curcur tied for the team lead with three assists each.

The following players played all 10 games: Adam Baran, John Favara, Calogero Curcur, Patryk Nieciecki and Anthony Ciorciari.

Assistant Coach Giuseppe Campailla said: “We have a very young team. I am looking forward to the future. With the amount of freshman and sophomores that we have I am thinking the City Finals. I am thinking City Championship. We are only graduating 3 seniors. I am hoping to see the soccer players and potential high school freshman students from our community enroll at Christ the King because this program is only getting better. If healthy for the city playoffs we should expect better results.”
