DEATH NOTICES

DANIEL R. LABIENTO of Centereach, New York, a retired NYPD sergeant, died on March 18, 2010 at home. He was 49. The beloved son of Richard and Joan Labiento, he was born December 8, 1960 in Ridgewood. He was the loving husband of Margaret Labiento (nee Swift). “Danny” was a star pitcher for Thomas Edison High School and Queens College. Entering the Police Academy in 1985, Danny married the following year and resided in Woodhaven. In 1995, Danny and family relocated to Centereach, where he volunteered much of his time coaching girls basketball and baseball teams. While on NYPD, Danny was highly decorated, and elected a PBA delegate, before his promotion to sergeant, working in the 6th, 94th and 102nd precincts. He was the devoted father of Dana, Jacqueline, Michelle and Kaitlyn. The cherished brother of Laraine, Anthony and MaryAnn, and loving uncle of

Victoria and Vincent.

+++ MARGARET RUOFF, 88, died peacefully on March 20, 2010 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. Born in Greenock Scotland, she had lived in Queens until moving to Homestead at Mansfield in 1987. Margaret had worked as an exectuive secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance in New York, and as a secretary and aide for the New York City public schools. She was a member and Clerk of Session at St. James United Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood, a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church of Burlington and the Senior Citiens of Homestead. Daughter of the late James and Catherine McNamara, sister of the late Roderick McNamara and wife of 65 years to the late Walter M. Ruoff, she is survived by three children, Ronald Ruoff and his wife Susan of Glendale, Dr. Kathryn L. Ruoff of White River Junction, Vermont, and Margaret MacKenzie of Columbus, New Jersey, and two grandchildren, Rachel Ruoff and David Dittrich. Funeral Services were held on March 24 at the Peppler Funeral Home, 122 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown. Interment will be private at Maple Grove Memorial Park in Kew Gardens.

+++ JOEL M. GALLO of Brooklyn died on March 19, 2010 at the age of 64. A native of Brooklyn, he was the beloved husband of Ana, devoted father of Roger Gallo and Richard Gallo and dear brother of Rosalle Vertaramo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Services were officiated by Rev. Angelo Mena at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery.

+++ CLAUDINA MARCAR of Ridgewood died on March 18, 2010 at the age of 63. A native of Brooklyn, she was the widow of the late Ludwig, devoted mother of Andrea Reichling; also survived by two grandchildren. Services were held at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory.

+++ GEORGE LOTREAN of Middle Village died on March 13, 2010 at the age of 80. A native of Lokve, Yugoslavia, he was the beloved husband of Maria Lotrean, devoted father of Jon Lotrean and Djordje Lotrean; also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in All Faiths Cemetery.

+++ ABEL HERNANDEZ of Forest Hills died on March 16, 2010 at the age of 31. A native of Villa Clara, Cuba, he was the loving son of Nilo Hernandez and Raquel Abreu Hernandez and dear brother of Elienay Hernandez, Naray Hernandez and Joel Hernandez. Services were held at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in Fairview Cemetery.

+++ COSTICA TANJALA of Somerville, New Jersey died on March 17, 2010 at the age of 102. A native of Romania, he was the husband of the late Eugenia, devoted father of Lumi T. Justice, Pavel Tanjala, Theodore Tanjala, Constantin Tanjala, Gabriel Tanjala, Rodica Preda, Monice Tanjala, Daniel Tanjala and Emanuel Tanjala; also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were officiated by Rev. Levi Marin at the Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Avenue, Ridgewood, followed by interment in Linden Hill Cemetery.

She was devoted mother of Richard Lynch, mother-in-law of Coreen, loving daughter of Mitsuko Schlereth, dear sister of Linda Fox and Donna Donnelly and fond grandmother of Jacob and Amnity. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Stanislaus Church followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

He was the devoted father of Robert Jr., Matthew and Jamie, loving son of Edward and Caroline, dear brother of Joseph and Eddie Jr. and fond uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Stanislaus Church followed by interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

He was the beloved husband of Juliana, devoted father of Angelo and Diane Vineis, father-in-law of Laura and Mark, dear brother of Raffaele and Rina Cenci, and fond grandfather of Stephanie, Kristina, Nicholas, Genna and Julia. Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s Church followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory under the direction of the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth.

+++ MANUEL ARROYO died on March 16, 2010 at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of Marina, devoted father of Manuel, Arlene, John, Efrin, Aida and the late Eric, and a fond grandfather of many. Religious services were offered at the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, followed by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory.

She was the widow of the late Frederick Krauss, devoted mother of Robert and the late Frederick; also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the George Werst Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Avenue, Glendale, followed by interment in All Faiths Cemetery.
