Gottschee Welcomes Future Stars To Annual Spring Clinic

Blau Weiss Sides Net Goals Across Region
by Sham Samaroo

Gottschee’s future stars had a blast at the soccer club’s annual Spring Clinic. Gottschee’s future stars had a blast at the soccer club’s annual Spring Clinic. Blue skies and glorious sunshine welcomed the hundreds of parents and children that turned out for the second week of the Blau Weiss Gottschee Annual Spring Clinic.

It was heartwarmingly delightful to see the kids, ages 4 to 9, getting, in many cases, their first taste of soccer. Watching the youngsters discover the pure joy of the beautiful game; and the adults, enthusiastically, cheering and celebrating every touch on the ball rekindled memories of a simpler time … of the old country and all those memories, unforgettable, that “home” reawakens. Indeed for many immigrants, soccer bestows, for a few fleeting hours on the weekend, a chance to revisit the old country, and to lose themselves in thoughts of long ago and far away.

Daydreaming, I wondered if perhaps, in the mix, there might not be the next Lionel Messi who one day might wear the red, white and blue.
