Three-Alarm Fire Engulfs Maspeth Cement Plant
Flames ripped through the silos of a Maspeth cement plant during a three-alarm inferno that ignited last Friday night, Oct. 1, it was reported. Fire Department sources stated that the blaze broke out at around 10:15 p.m. at the plant located in the vicinity of 49th Street and 56th Road. More than 40 Fire Department units responded to the scene along with officers from the 108th Precinct, EMS units and the New York City Office of Emergency Management. No injuries were reported. Two tower ladders and four hose lines were used to bring the blaze under control, an FDNY source said. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Fire Department marshals. (photos: Allen Epstein)
