Middle School Pgm., Driver Ed. Classes At Martin Luther
Open House June 16 In Maspeth
Martin Luther School (MLS) in Maspeth will be registering students for its driver education program on Tuesday, June 14, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the school located at 60-02 Maspeth Ave.
This driver’s education course is open to any students who will reach the age of 16 by July 11. The course is taught by New York State certified instructors and is approved by the state Education Department.
The course consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of road training in a late model, dualcontrolled, air conditioned car. A small class size will ensure personal attention to each student. The tuition for the course is $575.
Those who take the driver education course at MLS will qualify for a senior license at age 17, be exempt from the state written test and are eligible for reduced auto insurance rates offered by most carriers.
Students are given the opportunity to choose their own schedule on a first come, first served basis. A full schedule is available with the registration form.
Additionally, MLS will host an open house for all current fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade students and their families on Thursday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Teachers and administrators will be on hand to answer questions about academic, athletic and extracurricular programs, admission procedures, available modes of transportation and tuition and fees.
Guided tours will be offered to parents and students, giving all the opportunity to see the school’s newly-renovated science classrooms and conservatory, fitness center, computer lab and library. Also part of the tour will be the school’s most recent project: the creation of a special education center on the third floor.
Current students will be leading the tours of the facilities, offering a first-hand view on student life and activities at MLS.
“We’re excited at the prospect of broadening our mission to include the operation of a program for students in grades six, seven and eight,” commented Head of School Randal Gast. “Our middle school program, just like that offered to our high school students, will provide a Christ-centered education which maintains a culture of student success and a commitment to high expectations for all students. Our middle school students will also have the opportunity to participate in music, art and athletics, in addition to the challenging academic program.”
