DEATH NOTICES

LUIS A. MARTINEZ SR. of Manhattan, Ks. died on Friday, September 23, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, at the age of 58. He was born on August 6, 1953 in Bushwick, Brooklyn and was the son of Antonio and Mary (nee Rivera) Martinez. Luis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for the Sanitation Department in the 34th Street Partnership in New York, N.Y. until his retirement.

Luis had a passion for trains, mermaids, playing pool, watching wrestling and a plate of good food, especially pork chops, macaroni and cheese and cheesecake. He will always be a New Yorker through and through, and passed that along to his loving family. He also enjoyed a good drink and a cigarette while visiting with friends.

He and his wife Dora shared over 29 years of marriage together from a relationship that started as childhood friends and evolved into lifetime loves.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dora Weber, children Luis Martinez Jr. and Tiffany Martinez of Manhattan, Ks., Samuel Luis Martinez of South Carolina, Lisette and Jeremy Corbeille of Manhattan, Ks. and Jessica and H. James Hutzler of Manhattan, Ks., and grandchildren Amber Marie Hutzler, Adam James Hutzler, Eliana Iris Martinez and Ashlynn Ruth Corbeille. He is also survived by his brother Hector “Lefty” Martinez of Brooklyn and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Friday, September 30, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, followed by interment at Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan, Ks., under the direction of the Yorgensen-Meloan- Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, Ks.

Memorial contributions may be made ot the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in care of the Yorgensen- Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Ks. 66502. Online condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website, www.ymlfuneralhome.com.

+++ THOMAS P. BIRMINGHAM died on Monday, September 26, at the age of 81. A long-time resident of Glendale, he was a former history professor at the City College of New York. He was interred at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I. RITA KERRIGAN of Ridgewood died on Thursday, September 22, at the age of 76. A native of Ridgewood, she was the dear sister of Mary J. Galway. She is also survived by four nephews and one niece. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Matthias Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I., under the direction of Peter J. Geis Funeral Home, 57-34 Catalpa Ave., Ridgewood.

+++ MARY ELLEN LOWERY of Ridgewood died on Sunday, October 2, at the age of 84. A native of Jersey City, N.J., she was the beloved wife of Edward F. Lowery, devoted mother of Edward M., John, Wayne and Judith Schuhay and dear sister of Margarite Dupont and Eileen Blood. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Matthias Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I., under the direction of George Werst Funeral Home, A Dignity Provider, 71-41 Cooper Ave., Glendale.

+++ CHARLES F. MAI of Middle Village died on Saturday, October 1, at the age of 86. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Mai and devoted father of Mary, Diane and Carl. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Margaret Church, Middle Village, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I., under the direction of Michaels Funeral Home, 79-22 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village.

+++ LORRAINE C. HEINSOHN (nee EILBACHER) of Glendale died on Friday, September 30, at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Edmund Sr., beloved mother of Edmund Jr. and Susan, Peter and Joan, Laura and Don Pryor and Jayne and Wayne Steinbrenner and dear sister of Helen Lewandowski. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, October 5, at St. Pancras Church, Glendale, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, under the direction of Schwille Funeral Home, 66-32 Myrtle Ave., Glendale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 555 Albany Ave., Amityville, N.Y. 11701. CARMELA SCHININA of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, September 27, at the age of 80. A native of Ragusa, Sicily, Italy, she was the beloved wife of Giorgio Schinina and devoted mother of Carmelo Schinina and Maria McKofke. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of the Mirauclous Medal Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at Washington Memorial Park, Mount Sinai, L.I., under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood.

+++ MARIE C. RUMMEL of Maspeth died on Friday, September 30, at the age of 89. A native of Maspeth, she was the wife of the late William, daughter of the late Andrew Nuetzel and Catherine Koehler Nuetzel, dear sister of Dorothy Scarpitta and sisterin law of Patsy Scarpitta and fond aunt of Lindsay, Andrew, Marisa, Julie, Peter and Alexa. She was also a member of the Gold Star Wives Club. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Aloysius Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I., under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood. RAYMOND A. VAUTRIN of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, September 27, at the age of 69. A native of New York, he was the dear companion of Bernadette Rathjen.
