Nat’l Guard Truck Kills Wdhvn. Man
Dies Crossing Chinatown St.
Trying to cross a Manhattan street was a fatal decision for a Woodhaven man who was struck and killed by a National Guard vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 6, police reported. He was identified by law enforcement sources as 82-year-old Kwok Fu of 85th Avenue in Woodhaven. Reportedly, the accident occurred at around 1:23 p.m. Tuesday in the vicinity of Centre and Canal streets in Chinatown. According to information obtained by police, Fu was walking southbound across Canal Street when he was hit by a National Guard personnel carrier vehicle traveling westbound on the roadway. The driver of the rig stopped and remained at the scene of the incident. Officers from the Fifth Precinct and EMS units responded to the location. Fu was transported by paramedics to New York Downtown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No criminality is suspected, and no charges have been filed against the driver. The NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is continuing their inquiry, police said.
