by Robert Pozarycki

Detectives are investigating a deadly two-car accident on the Grand Central Parkway at the Kew Gardens Interchange early last Thursday morning, Nov. 22, which claimed the life of a 53-year-old man, law enforcement sources said.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed by police.

Reportedly, the crash occurred at around 3:20 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning on the parkway’s eastbound lanes near the Jackie Robinson Parkway exit.

According to information obtained by police, the 53-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2011 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on the Grand Central Parkway when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle and struck a median.

Law enforcement sources said the victim’s car then collided with a 2007 Pontiac sedan traveling eastbound on the parkway before finally slamming into another median.

Members of the 112th Precinct, the NYPD Highway Patrol and EMS units responded to the scene. The 53- year-old man was rushed by paramedics to New York Hospital Queens, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the Pontiac was treated at the scene for minor injuries and refused further medical attention, authorities said.

No criminality is suspected in the case, but an inquiry by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
