Remembering The Lost In Sunnyside

Family and friends gathered Monday, Sept. 9, to celebrate the co-naming of a street in Sunnyside for a former resident who was one of the victims in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings last December. The southwest corner of 41st Street and Queens Boulevard was named Benjamin Wheeler Place for the six-year-old who was among those lost during the horrific massacre in Newtown, Conn. Pictured are Wheeler’s family, as well as local politicians City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, who introduced legislation for the street co-naming; Rep. Joe Crowley; State Sen. Michael Gianaris; and well-wishers.
