Cops Warn About Maspeth Prowler
Driver Tried To Lure Kid From Schoolyard
The 104th Precinct warned parents this week to keep a careful eye on their children after a suspicious man attempted to lure a youngster from a Maspeth playground last Saturday, Aug. 16.
Law enforcement sources said the incident happened at 4 p.m. last Saturday at the P.S. 58 schoolyard in the rear of 72-50 Grand Ave., which is used during non-school hours as a public playground.
Reportedly, a man in his 30s behind the wheel of a small black vehicle gestured for a child by waving his hand. Seconds later, he fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The incident was subsequently reported to the 104th Precinct; there were no injuries.
Anyone with information regarding the prowler that could prove helpful is asked to call the 104th Precinct at 1-718-386-3004; all calls will be kept confidential.
Police advised parents to keep watch over their children at all times while out in public, and to immediately report any suspicious persons lurking in and around playgrounds.
Adults who are not accompanying children are not permitted in New York City playgrounds.
